Aberdeen Works to Fill 1,000 Open Jobs

Aberdeen has bucked national trends for the last few years, while other parts of the country have entirely different news to report.

“Industries across the community report that they will be hiring several diverse positions this calendar year. These industries include manufacturing, healthcare, financial services, communications, alternative energy, value-added agriculture, and more. These are not hypothethical jobs. These are companies on the ground and in growth modes now,” emphasized Julie Johnson, Executive Director of Absolutely! Aberdeen.

In a press event held in Aberdeen, SD, today, representatives of just a handful of the companies hiring this year reported the details of their extensive hiring plans. Companies included 3M, Avera St. Lukes, Hub City Inc., Molded Fiber Glass Companies, Midstates Inc., Northern Beef Packers, Sanford Health, Twin City Fan, and Wyndham Hotel Group.

3M Aberdeen is a world class manufacturing facility with over 600 employees. The company produces respirators and filter webs for health care, welding, painting, construction and home improvement applications. 3M Aberdeen also has a custom tape converting business for the automotive and aerospace industries.

3M is currently accepting applications for regular full-time production operators and maintenance technicians, as well as temporary full-time production operators, custodians, and food service attendants. Opportunities are available on a fixed midnight, fixed afternoons, or a day-and-afternoon rotation basis, a variety of salary levels from $11.63 per hour plus shift differential to $19.85 per hour with a shift differential, reports Lee Compton, Aberdeen Plant Manager.

“Avera St. Luke’s Hospital , the largest employer in the area, is hiring health professionals as well as the support personnel it takes to run a hospital”, said Ron Jacobson, Regional Vice President for Avera Health and President/CEO, for Avera St. Lukes.

Hub City, Inc. is a wholly owned Subsidiary of Regal-Beloit Corporation. Over the years, Hub City has provided power transmission products for use in packaging, recreation, transportation, military, construction, arts and entertainment, communication, material handling, medical and food processing equipment.

Jim Campbell, Vice President, Regal Beloit, Inc., and General Manager, Hub City, Inc., says they are currently hiring for CNC machinists, CNC turning operators, CNC gear operators, inside customer service, manufacturing supervisor, design engineer, and CAD operators.

Midstates Inc. Print and Media Solutions is a family-owned, locally-grown communications company that does business globally from Aberdeen, SD. Becky Mutziger, Human Resource Director, reported that Midstates has a full array of positions across the company from management, to accounting, to graphic arts, to transportation and more.

Molded Fiber Glass Companies (also known as MFG) is a family company that manufactures wind turbine blades for the wind energy industries and sells them all exclusively to GE. MFG opened their Aberdeen plant about 2 years ago. Human Resource Manager James Humphries said that they are ramping up to a full team of 700 teammates.

Northern Beef Packers is the first new large, state- of- the- art, beef packing plant constructed in South Dakota in 50 years, and will bring “South Dakota Certified Beef” to fruition. The plant will begin operations in the third quarter of this year with approximately 260 staff when they begin operations, growing to 560 by 2012, when they achieve full staff.

Steve Kaiser, Public Relations Director for NBP, reported they are recruiting for and hiring the full array of professional, technical and support staff required to run a new state-of-the-art operation, including: electricians, accounting manager, HR manager, computer technician, receptionists, security officers, supervisors, specialized equipment operators, shipping, invoicing, and many other positions.

Sanford Health is building a new 48-bed hospital in Aberdeen, scheduled to open in the summer of 2012. Hiring will begin this calendar year in order to allow time for staff training before the grand opening. Scott Eisenbeisz, Sanford Director of Clinic Operations for Aberdeen and Ipswich, SD, reports that they are hiring almost the entire spectrum of health care professionals and support staff required to run a new hospital.

Twin City Fan is growing its business in the production of commercial and industrial fans for various markets including hospitals, heavy industrial, power plants and many other applications around the globe. TCF and has multiple opportunities for skilled welders and machinists in its Aberdeen, SD, operation. Dan Johnson, Manager of the Aberdeen TCF operations, reports that they have full-time, part-time and seasonal positions opening for various shifts.

Wyndham Hotel Group is the world’s largest and most diverse hotel group, doing business globally, including operations in Aberdeen, SD. Wyndham’s Aberdeen Hotel Operations Center is currently recruiting for Customer Care Representatives, Reservation Agents, Group Sales and Group Solutions Representatives, Wyndham Rewards Member Services Representatives, and Technical Support Professionals, reported Kelly Comstock, Human Resources Manager for Wyndham.
