Aberdeen families educate their children in the Aberdeen Public School District at one of six elementary schools, two middle schools, Central High School, and A-Tec Academy. The district’s goal is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to reach their potential in a global community through high expectations of academic achievement, diverse educational opportunities, and community involvement. Parents can also choose high-quality private education, from several religious-based institutions offering both grade-school and high-school courses.

Higher Education

Special Needs

In the area of special education, progressive programs for students with special needs have been incorporated into the curriculums of all schools. Aberdeen is home to South Dakota’s School for the Blind and the Visually Impaired and it’s a brand-new, comfortable campus, dorm facilities, and highly trained faculty.

Adult Education

Cornerstones provides no-cost adult education. Anyone who needs to improve their academic skills to high school graduate level is eligible. Adult Basic Education classes are offered to students to prepare for the GED exam, improve advanced English skills, and as a review before post-secondary education if they already have a high school diploma or GED. Cornerstones also provides free English Language Acquisition (ELA) classes (also known as English as a Second Language or ESL) to help students speak, read, and write English.
